Hello there Family! This is a slightly longer lesson than usual but in this one we’re going to look at both the chording hand and the strumming hand. All Around the Kitchen is a great movement tune to have in your social music songbag. Sooner or later you’re going to be in the company of young people and in the grand folk music tradition you must have at least one solid song for them! This could be that song. It’s got everything: a part for people to sing, a melodic line, a freeze dance element, and space for improvised lyrics. All played with one chord. I don’t know what kind of grown-up parties you go to but this could work for the over 18 crowd, too. In any event, I think you’ll dig this one. Ukulele players have a reputation as a fun loving crowd and this will enhance that reputation greatly. If you don’t get the melodic line on this song, don’t worry about it. You can always come back later and work it out. The main thing here is getting to a place where the verse and the chorus are fairly natural and relaxed. I really want to hear from you on this one...How is it working? Are people dancing? Are you singing with gusto? Are you making up verses? Are the stops nice and clean? Is this social or what??????????????
