Hi, my name is Davell Crawford and I'm here for Sonic Junction. Over the course of the year I will be teaching you different piano styles ranging from Blues, Gospel, New Orleans and Jazz improvisation.
Over my career as a musician and teacher, I have studied and used several techniques to teaching blues, New Orleans Piano, Gospel, and R&B. My technique teaches you to play piano after the very first lesson. You will learn to play and enjoy such classics as, "High Heel Sneakers", "You Can Make It If You Try", "Careless Love", "Put Your Hand In The Hand", "There Is Always One More Time", and others.
Each song is taught over several lessons. Breaking down the left function, then the right hand, while giving instruction on inversions and variations. Each lesson will have my video, song/lesson overview, sheet music, and looping tracks. You can also slow the lesson down to hear and see the piano fingering, etc. at a slower speed. To access your lessons anywhere, use our iPhone/iPad app. You can get my personal feedback at any time by posting questions or uploading videos of your playing. I encourage you to post your work! -- it's fun and a great learning tool.
My journey as a professional musician started at the age of 7 and since that time I have played with many of the masters that have passed on. They left me a tremendous respect and knowledge of their music. I feel it is my duty to keep there musics alive and well. Here, at Sonic Junction, I will pass on to you the little pearls of wisdom that was personally gifted to me by the authors and creators of this music. I strive to release lessons that feel personalized for any level of musician.
I am also excited to announce...
soon this year, here at Sonic Junction, I will offer a limited amount of one-on-one personalized piano lessons via Skype. I am excited to expand my availability to you via Sonic Junctions new Skype one-on-one learning experience where students wanting a more personalized experience in the blues, gospel, song composition, band formation, etc. can learn directly from me weekly and we both can share in the progression of their learning experience.
Hope to meet you here at Sonic Junction!

To get you started, please check out my free sample lesson: Blues Shuffle - Left Hand.
Today we will start this first lesson off with the blues. It's a shuffle pattern that will start forming a strong foundation of your left hand and your right hand rhythm technique, which is a very important factor in learning the blues and roots music as a whole. We will learn the shuffle with the great Jimmy Reed tune Baby, What You Want Me To Do.
After you learn the left hand pattern, please practice it with my run-through of Baby, What You Want Me To Do until you can play it without looking at the keyboard. A strong left hand is the hallmark of all the great New Orleans and Chicago blues piano players and we want you to start building your foundation.
Oh, and please invest in a little metronome!!!
Et ils sont partis!
