Hey There Harpers!
Dennis Gruenling here with my new series focusing on splits and octaves on the diatonic harmonica called “Split The Difference”. For this study piece we will be in the Key of F, playing 2nd Position on a Bb harmonica. If you don’t already use some tongue-blocking, this is going to be a good exercise (and excuse) for you to start working on this exciting tongue-blocked technique. If you are already using some tongue-blocking, this will help give you more exercises and patterns utilizing split intervals and octaves on the harp. This technique can really give our humble instrument a much bigger and fuller sound, since we will be playing 2 notes at once while using this technique.
Check it out, and then let the fun begin jamming along with it!
- Dennis

What is your favorite note on the harmonica?
I like F!! On C harmonica, it is 5 draw. On other harmonica, it is another hole. I will find all the F notes!!
Hi - I don't have any specific particular note. For me, it all depends on the context of the song, and when and how I am playing the note also....
Sounds like a good idea. Not that I'm complaining but every series that you and Rick do is so packed with great stuff - techniques, concepts, new positions... - it can get a bit overwhelming by chorus number ten! There's several lifetimes worth of blues harmonica to learn from this site. I am very appreciative to have it.
I also appreciate!
Really cool sound Dennis. Are there changes afoot in the format of lessons here? Only three choruses this time.
Well, I was asked to do a shorter format, which I believe will also make some of these study songs perhaps easier to tackle, while I can pinpoint a specific focus even more if I want to.
Right on.
