Hello Sonic Junctionites - this week we tackle chorus 10 in my “This is the Word” 3rd position piece. I structured this chorus to take you through the blues scale again within the first two octaves of the instrument. Remember, in order to truly know a scale (or any musical concept) you have to be able to put it into practice. Many people know the notes that make up a scale, but knowing any scale well enough to be able to improvise within that framework is a whole ‘nother story! That is the goal here anyway, and one of the best ways to get closer to that is to study the scale backwards and forwards, and study licks and solos that utilize the scale, such as a study piece like this. Another good idea to keep your chops up, would be to still just practice the blues scale in 3rd position in between these lessons and even after you finish this study piece, to truly embed this scale and it’s sounds in your head.
Have fun, and I’ll see you next time to wrap up this song!
