Hi Folks,
This week we are working on the second half of Paul Kolesnikow's tasteful solo for "Just Because." His use of space in the phrasing should make it easier to get what he is doing. This is a fun song to play and it can be done many ways. Les Paul recorded it when he was Rhubarb Red playing harmonica and his trusty old L-5. Elvis even cut a version of it on an early Sun Records session. The most well known version being Frankie Yankovic's 1940s one as a polka! Jimmy Rushing, Mr 5 by 5 did my favorite take on it in the late 50s or early 60s with an incredible big band. I made my arrangement with this version in mind.
Enjoy!

Hi Steve, Man that is fabulous! you have such a great feel for the phrasing. I am very impressed! Playing along with the track a bit will help you find where everything fits but you are very close! Again great job, you really have the feel! Duke
Mike, there's a transcription error in this one. The 2nd note in the 7th bar, currently a 6 on the 2nd string, should be an 8 on the same string. Thanks.
Hi Duke
This is solo 1 and 2. I still have a long way to go on this. The timing is a challenge. I understand the phrasing, its when i try to put them all together that's the challenge. I understand the reverb is a bit excessive.
It is a great song and Paul did a wonderful job putting together this solo. Thanks to both of you.
Steve
