Here are the 1st and 2nd choruses of "Easy". Both choruses have the same melody but different sounds in playing them. The "growls" that I employ are done in two different ways. On the draw the sound is produced from the back of the throat, but on the blow it is produced by rolling the tongue.

How do you get those growls? I can get a growl (a poor one) on a draw note, but not at all on a blow. It's a great sound.
Aria,
You're making all the right sounds, which is great! Your time is a bit off, however. If you sing the song in your head as you play, you'll naturally play it in time. Also, you may be thinking too much about producing the effects (like the growls) instead of thinking of the music and just letting the technique happen.
Portnoy is one cool cat. He not only oozes the blues, but he embodies what was good about beatniks, hippies and jazz cats that didn't OD. I know he's not old enough to have live at least most of that, he just comes by it naturally. I am signing up to learn about the blues harp from this master.
