I noticed you have the low and high knobs all the way up on your Bad Monkey. Can you talk a little about how you like to set that pedal.I just bought one.
Hi Bill, Love the Bad Monkey. One pedal that sounds to me like a tube amp. yes I set the bass and treble all the way up usually. If I want a darker sound I turn the treble back a bit. As far as other settings it's really up to the individual.
I think I understand what you're saying about not being specific in time. With enough listening and playing along with records it just becomes intuitive knowing where the changes come in. I think I can do that now to some degree. In the back of my mind I always think there would be someone saying - hey, you're not following the correct format! You changed to soon or you changed to late.
Specifically, I struggle with knowing what constitutes 1 beat. When you play a straight shuffle the beats seem to be easily recognizable. But if you play the A7 then slide from the 2nd to 4th fret on the B string, etc., how many beats is that? Not sure if I'm making any sense but it's the emblishments that make it hard to count.
I guess it's not the structure I struggle with so much but counting the beats. It's easy to count them with a straight shuffle but when it's played like this it's a lot more difficult.
Hi Duke, One of the things that I struggle with is the changes. When I play a standard 12 bar blues rhythm it's easy to know when to go from the I to the IV and V. But when it's played like here in your lessons I find it really hard to know when and for how long to go from one change to the next. What do you recommend for making that easier? Hope I'm making sense.
Duke, You've had an absolutely amazing career. We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to benefit from someone who has personal firsthand experiences as you have with the original masters. I say original because you are one of the masters and I love your music. Please keep those lessons coming!

johnyurt - I've lived in South Florida in the past for years. The Backroom in Delray is a great club. I saw Debbie Davies, James Cotton and others there. The open mike nights are great as well. Thanks for an excellent Blues club.
I just can't get enough of that sound in Blues A Rama lesson 1. I really want to pick that up. Problem is I'm having a hard time figuring out how your playing some of it. There's so much going on that the sheet music is hard to figure out. Anyway you could go over it a little slower?

Duke,
Are you playing a B chord at 1:07?
I hear a piano in there too! :)
Thanks,
Bill
Mike,
I couldn't help but notice two things in the loop beginning at 10:14 to practice mixing riffs.
1. At the very end of the loop Dukes words match up with the words at the very beginning. ( That had to be done on purpose.)
2. Someone is clicking their fingers to the beat.
Just thought I would share that with you.
Thanks,
Bill
