Thanks for the lesson. I love playing this Chicago stuff in E. The minor variations on such simple stuff is very cool. I wish Little Walter had recorded more guitar parts like the one on Honeybee.
I really like your tone on this lesson. Is that just an amp, or are you using an overdrive pedal in there?
Oh man...I have known the basics of this song, but before going through these lessons tonight never played the hit that first D note on the B string in the main lick that Corey shows in the first lesson. Funny that one note is making such a difference in my satisfaction at playing this one. Then, I hit this lesson and pick up that choke! That thing is bad, bad, bad!

Hi Corey-
I intend to follow the CC Pill series closely. I really enjoy the music of Blind Blake and Blind Boy Fuller, and can fake my way around some of their stuff, but honestly the prospect of honestly learning their work is intimidating. For song like this, I think the key ideas are getting the bass lines first, going slowly at the beginning, and breaking the song into managable parts. All of your lessons that I have watched on here have been exactly what I needed!
Thanks! On that first chorus, I started out trying to play the melody using harmonized sixth-interval doublestops. I can have a tendency of dropping into pentatonic noodling if I try to play single note lines for too long, and that approach is one of the ways that I like to try to avoid noodling!
This is the first time I have ever recorded myself for practice/learning. I learned a lot about my own playing and picked out some more bad habits to eliminate by going through a few takes the other night.
Thanks for the feedback and kind words on my video. I just ran through the backing a couple of times focusing on playing the slow lines slowly, and I was very happy with the sound.
Thanks for the awesome lessons. From your old Hot Licks DVD, to the videos on the original Red Oak site and here, I have learned a lot about playing the music I love from you.
I took a quick stab at improvising a couple of choruses over the How Long Blues backing track. I would truly appreciate any feedback that you have. Thanks!
