Last Thing On My Mind > Using the Capo to Foster Creativity

Hello All,

This week I’m going to share an arrangement that I came up with for Last Thing On My Mind. The goal here was to use the capo to encourage myself to find different sounds or a different approach to this song - one that I have played many times in the same open C position. Because we’re all pretty familiar with playing out of an open G position I put the capo on the 5th fret and played from a G position. This immediately changed the resonance of the guitar and got me to think about this melody in a whole new way. And suddenly I had my own way to play this song, rather than rehashing Tony Rice’s version again. I hope that you all can learn from this approach and use it come up with your own arrangements, of this and every other song! But in the meantime here’s what I came up with for the A part ;-)

Cheers!

Chris
