Hi Folks, This week we start on"Rock Me Baby" and we are doing the BB King version that I love. This weeks lesson is the melody riff or head. It's repeated throughout the song. Get this down and we will work on soloing on it next.
Enjoy, Duke

Hi Peter ... thanks. All fixed. Bye the way, that's Jerry Portnoy on harp with Muddy and the band.
Hey Steve, You got it perfectly! And I like your embellishment on the 2nd verse. I sometimes do that exact same thing! Nice tone also on the Strat. Duke
Duke,
Here's another go at it. I also added some embellishments on the 2nd 12 based on some you tube BB King videos.
Thanks,
Steve
Hello Wieger, Thanks for your kind words. And of course I agree, it's the emotional impact that matters. I will check out that video. I have played your town many times and love the Netherlands! Duke
Hi Duke,
It is not technical complexity but emotional intensity that makes good music. A case in point is this version of Rock me baby: Sugar Pie DeSanto. Live in England, 1964. Willie Dixon on bass, Hubert Sumlin on guitar according to the commenters. Here is the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZIzF2uC9MM.
Anyway, I enjoy your lessons very much and play better by the day.
Best regards,
Wieger
p.s. Any people around Utrecht, Holland, interested in playing Duke's teachings together?
Thanks Duke,
I'll be sure to work on it.
Steve
Hi Steve H, Nice tone and feel. You have all the right notes but you need to start the riff a little Later. The riff starts a half beat after beat one. So the count would be 12341 start. It's a 1 and a...... Anticipate the first note. Try that approach and let me know how you make out. Maybe watch how Alan does it. Duke
Hi Alan, Good job! Nice tone and groove! Duke
Duke - thanks for including this scintillating number in the line up - trying to cram as much sexual innuendo as possible into 3 notes - I'm finding dragging just slightly behind the beat ups the suggestive quotient - and I'm with you on the slow vibrato, sometimes low & slow is where it's at .... I mean, BB is talkin about "all night long" !
Duke,
I'm glad your doing this great tune. One of my favorie BB tunes. This line is about tone and execution. No time to mess around on this one.
Thanks,
Steve
