Hello All!
This week we’re jumping into a fun new realm of music - “crooked” tunes. Crooked is a term that’s used (usually in the context of old-time music) to describe a tune that has an unusual number of beats. It could be 1 extra beat, 3 less, 2 more, etc. There is no rule about how a tune should be crooked - it just means that it doesn’t always adhere to a normal, predictable time signature.
Here I’m teaching you an alternate version of Billy in the Lowground that has not just an extra beat, but an entire extra measure. So for any given A or B part, instead of it being just 4 measures of music you have 5 measures. In addition to this being a different way of thinking about the tune, it’s just plain fun! I love playing Billy in the Lowground this way!
Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!
Chris
