Hi Folks, This week we are working on blues shuffles starting with the uptown and downtown box patterns that are used in so many blues shuffles. Brad displayed a few variations before we go on the Jimmy Reed/Eddie Taylor style and demonstrate more styles. We talk about many of the classic blues players to listen to for ideas and inspiration. Lastly we do a shuffle where Brad demonstrates the style of Willie Dodson and we play a Little Milton Style shuffle tune. It was fun and we hope you have fun listening and learning! Excellent lesson!  I think I've also heard the march referred to as "lumpty-lump" vs. swing.  Also, one of the things

I always liked about MW's songs is the departure, at times, from the walking bass figures to do nothing more than

single/eighth notes on the tonic/root, particularly during march-like songs.  Thanks, again!

Mike, On that final chorus I am pretty much playing Little Milton/ BB King lines. Miltons style was based on BBs directly and is just a personal varition of BBs playing. So naturally when I play Milton I am also playing BB and a bit of myself thrown in.

Hi Duke .. absolutely love this lesson!  The Little Milton shuffle blew me away ... I'm going to learn all three choruses and get them into my head!  

One question .. what you do on the third chorus starting at 1:05 to 1:30 on the timecode is beautiful.  It's so melodic.  Any thoughts on how I can learn / hear more ideas like that?
