Hello Family! I know, I know, it’s just gets better and better around here! It’s an adventure, there’s no doubt about it, and I’m so happy to be doing this with all of you. We’ll learn a new chord for this song, the Em. It’s connected to the G chord ( Em is the relative minor of the G!) and allows us to play this soulful progression in the key of G. We’ll take a look at the flow of this progression and jump right in.
This is one of those songs that everyone knows and, as far as I can tell, everyone can agree on. That’s certainly been my experience. It’s not the first song that people expect me to start singing in a social setting but no one has any hesitation when it come to singing along!! There’s one progression for the verse and another simpler one for the chorus. I recommend learning them well so that the brain doesn’t need to be a part of the process when you start singing. When I play a song with any kind of emotional core it really doesn’t help if i need to devote a great deal of energy to asking myself “what’s the next chord”? If you can memorize it and sing with gusto you’ll be well on your way to amazing your friends and neighbors with your musical skills…..this is social music, baby!
