Greetings all Ukulele Fiends!

Here we are again, gathering together to celebrate and explore the wild world of Social Music. In today’s lesson we’ll play the Irving Burgie classic Jamaica Farewell as made popular by Harry Belefonte. We’ll do it in the key of G. The song cycles around from the I to the IV to the V and that’s it from beginning to end. No bridges, no big changes for the chorus, no fireworks, just G to C to D. Given the soulful simplicity of the song I think it’s a great one for exploring some of the different ways to make these changes feel like they’re evolving over the course of the tune. We’ll look at a few different things that the strumming / picking hand can do and also how to develop Instrumental passages. This is a great song to use to begin to examine the fingerboard in a way that can at times feel almost meditative. It’s a pleasure to join you all at the Junction.
