Hello!
This week I am going to teach you the solo that I played on Let Him Go On Mama, but in the process we're going to study how chords and chord fragments are informing what we play. It is my intention that you will learn about the "map" of the guitar neck with this lesson!
Enjoy!
Chris

The chor diagram on all the guitar site would me a lot thanks
Thanks I can slow my PC down now I had to upload Sonic Junction, and it will slow down. it would be nice if you would Show the Chords. thanks
Hey Boyd - have you watched the other lessons on this song? This is lesson 4. Lesson 1 called "Teaching The Song" shows the chords very clearly, including chord diagrams in the notation.
Hope this help,
Lewis
Thanks for the suggestion Boyd. We will update the sheet music this Friday with chord diagrams.
Hi Boyd and Allen,
Thanks for your feedback. We can do better, especially with suplemental information.
Boyd, I'm sorry if the lessons feel like they're moving too quickly. Some of that is by design because I know that there is a function on the video player where students can loop a section, and also slow down the stream. And this is definitely a conceptually advanced lesson! I develop the lessons with the expectation that there might need to be some rewinding to get the idea. My hope for some of the trickier stuff is that by explaining each idea or, in the case of this particular lesson, each shape from at least two different perspectives that people will take their own time to explore the concept or shape. For me, the only way I ever *really* learn anything is if I figure it out for myself. So I'm trying to serve as a guide here and point out things that will make these concepts easier to understand, and maybe even show you how I think about them, but still leave some space for you, the students, to come to understand these things in your own way. I still think that's the right approach, but it sounds like I could be doing a better job at it. Do you have any specific questions about this lesson? I'm happy to try to help.
Also, it's worth mentioning that I'm deliberately making some of the more recent lessons more advanced because, for my lessons alone, we have upwards of 20 hours of instructional material here, most of it easier. That said, I want to present the harder stuff in a clear, easy to understand way. I'll try to do a better job.
I'll check in with Mike to see if we can insert chord and/or scale diagrams into the videos.
Best,
Chris
I think that Boyd may be hitting on an issue that goes beyond slowing down the video stream.
I went back to the up the neck version of Whiskey Before Breakfast. Great lesson.
But it would have been greater if in addition to Critter *explaining* the major scale up the neck, we also got a diagram of the actual scales, with the root notes marked.
I had to go off the site to find that scale information to bridge the gap between the video and the tab and it was a bit of a pain.
It wouldn't be hard to add to the lessons, just a quick PDF page, and it would help make them more accessible to everyone.
It works on my iPad thanks
Good suggestion Allen. When Chris is breaking down a scale we will try to include it in the PDF.
Thanks Mike. I love Chris's teaching style, but I do think that having chords and scales in addition to the tab on certain lessons will allow us to spend more time thinking about his musical ideas and less time trying to rewind the video to figure out "Is he on the 12th fret of Bs string or the high E string?"
I know that I want chords out. its makes it a lot better to understand. I'm sorry the instruction needs more
It would be nice if you take more time and explain the chords. And show the chord diagram. And slow down a little. for the members that are not so for advance. I would like to learn this. But you go to fast. I don't get anything out of your lessons. I guess i will get my lessons on you tube. you go way to fast
Boyd, run your mouse cursor across the face of the video, in the top left you should see a video speed selection show up. 50%, 75% and full speed. It's very helpful in slowing down what is presented. Cheers.
