This week we’re going to talk about one of the most useful techniques in a flatpicker’s arsenal - hybrid picking. Hybrid picking is a technique where one holds the flatpick in the normal way but uses his or her remaining fingers (middle, ring and sometimes even the pinky) of the right hand to approximate fingerstyle guitar techniques. It is something that I employ all the time. You can use it to play clean counterpoints across the guitar, play traditional fingerstyle patterns, or even activate multiple strings simultaneously like a piano.
Cheers,
Chris
