Greetings Guitar Friends and Neighbors!
Here’s my favorite Christmas song, an old one called Rise Up Shepherd and Follow from the African-American tradition. I first heard it on a Pete Seeger record but Mary J. Blige and Venessa Williams Among others have nice versions out there too. In this lesson we’ll go over ways to start using the flatpack and fingers together in order to get the big bass notes and a fluid dynamic feel on the top strings. We’ll also talk about the VII chord and how it works in the song structure along with the I, IV, and V chords. This is best played socially as a call and response song and we’ll look at how that can happen with a small group of singers.
Thank you for tuning up and tuning in here at the Sonic Junction! Whatever you celebrate (or don’t celebrate), happy holidays to you all, I hope to hear from you soon…
