This week we're going to take a look at playing Soldier's Joy out of open D position. One would usually play out of open D (as opposed to open C with a capo on the second fret, for instance) for the particular chord voicings that come in open D, but it can make playing old melodies fresh and inspiring as well. Everything we have worked on with Soldier's Joy thus far is transferable to play out of open D, and we have the benefit of using the open A string for big sounding, low double-stops.
Have fun with this lesson and remember that as long as you can sing the melody, then you know it, and that means that you can transpose it to the new position!
