In this lesson we will talk about the C# standard tuning and then cover the necessary chords for the song. Keep in mind that we will play the using what would be the 1,4 and 5 chords for the G position (G, C, and D if we were in standard E tuning). We are basically tuning the guitar down three half steps so that when you play the low E string it will be a C# note. This is the same way that Sam Chatman tuned his guitar. Take some time getting acquainted with the tuning. Remember that you are not obliged to play this song in this tuning; I found that it let me sing at an agreeable, comfortable pitch. After you learn the song you are free to tune your guitar however you wish, as long as you are playing out of the the blues chords in the G position. Take your time and have fun with it.
