Hey Friends,
Today we start a new song which is an absolute classic Chicago blues song! Jimmie Rogers Walkin' By Myself, is great for many reasons. Jimmie's performance, the great 8 bar form, cool lyrics and melody, the harp solo (Walter Horton) and the fabulous band! It's a lot of fun to sing and play. This first lesson is on the rhythm as always and we'll have lots of fun with this one. Invite your harp buddy to play with you on this!
Enjoy,
Duke

Great tune Duke, but in case anyone got confused during the (awesome Big Walter) harp verses, it changes to a 12 bar form for the solo.
John, I respectfully disagree. To me, it sounds like 3 choruses of the 8 bar form. Mathmatically, that works out the same as 2 choruses of a 12 bar form (3x8=24 2x12=24) but moreover, to me, it sounds like they are playing the 8 bar form, especially in the harmonica solo. Of course, I could be totally wrong. ;-) But that's how I hear it.
Hi Bruce,
Maybe you listened to a different version of the song. Here is the one I was refering to. I think it is the original release w/ Big Walter's classic solo:
Hi John. That's the same version I'm using. Duke seems to agree that it is 3 choruses of 8 bars using the same chord pattern as the song, as he says that in one of the lessons.
Thanks Duke! Funnily enough I've been trying to study another Jimmie classic 'Ludella', but this one is one of my all-time favorites! Looking forward to diving deeper.
Wishing you a very happy new year - see you in the 20's : )
