hey there matthew! thank you for that version...i love it! great playing and singing and over all atmosphere. you had a few different ways of moving from the Am to the F and my favorite was around 1:50, that felt like the smoothest transition. there are no wrong answers and it's cool to hear how different players interpret songs but one of the things i look out for is whether or not my playing is supporting the vocal fully or possibly distracting from the vocal. the way you played the progression at 1:50 (and several other points oin the song) was, i thought, fully supporting the vocal. and i love the harmonies too! thanks a lot for this...i look forward to hearing more music from you!
Matthew, great. One question I have for you. Are you a singer? If not you should start singing aloud these songs. It would help. Certainly, you are doing a great job playing them, but I'd like to see you breathe a little more life and soul into your playing. Singing the song would be a great first step! Other than that I think this was a really good presentation of the song!
Thanks again for the lesson. I've been learning the comping and also trying to learn the solo by ear. i'm still having trouble with the tremelo around 2:03 in the lesson video. Any advice?
Great shot at the song! At 2:03 in the lesson you were asking about a certain tremelo.
If you're speaking about the right hand movements...well, it's fairly easy! Hold your index finger down on Do (the one), and place your thumb and pincky fingers on So (the fifth). Octave the fifths abd alternatate the playing of both of them while pressing the Do (the one).
Great job! I certainly heard your added improvisation around marker time 1:45, loud and clear. That's what the blues is all about! In the begginning on the Fmaj. chord, the left hand didn't reach up to the Dominant 7th, but once you changed to the Bb, your thumb reached up to the Dominant 7th. Really good that you played both the basic and variated lines as the lesson does, it helps me to know just where you are in your interpretation of this music and just where you will need some pointers. In future lessons, we will explore attack and feeling, I'll be excited for you when we get to that stuff! Keep up the really good work!!!
Hi Duke!
Thanks so much for the track - had a blast learning the song and playing along with you!
Wow, fabulous playing Matthew! Very cool stuff.
Great song & lesson! Your approach to singing and lyrics is simple yet suprisingly powerful.
Anyways, recorded my own version (played around with some harmony too); would love to hear any feedback you have.
Thanks,
Matthew

And there you have it.
Post here so that I can see!
Great playing and good luck!

Hey Davell,
thanks for the lesson! here's my first shot at it; i tried throwing in some right hand comping with the left hand.
