And from the same After Hours Swing Session album, I'll Never Be The Same. . .
Done in 1937 by Billie and The Teddy Wilson Orchestra
Sadly, this is the last song of Duke's that my guitar teacher transcribed
This is truly a beautiful song and my favorite version. Love the intro here whic,h chord wise, has nothing to do with song which is great. Most of the earlier Billie Holiday Columbia period material are the best of the swing era musicians play very simple head arrangements. This make's it so intimate and beautiful it's my favorite Billie period, although each segment of her career has it's own magic.
Songs from this era provided two songs for the price of one! (Long instrumental intro) We don't have the attention span these days to wait for the vocals to come in. The DR versions of I'll Never Be The Same and {especially}The Lonesome Road are well worth the wait.
Thank you Tim
, I love the old style of stating the melody first before the vocal.
