Hi Fellow guitarists, For this weeks lesson we work on the head or theme to Chitlens Con Carne. It is a very simple melody that is straight out of the pentatonic blues box on the bottom 4 strings. There are a few different ways to approach the "feel" of the head. The original Kenny Burrell version has a very swing feel to the way he plays the head which can be a bit strange to get used to playing against the Latin groove although it makes it much more interesting really. The straighter way, which most covers of it are, is a much more obvious way to play it and it sounds fine, so if you are uncomfortable trying to swing it against the Latin feel then there's no shame in playing it straight. Also notice the call and response in the head with the sharp 9th chord answering the melody. This is very cool stuff!
Enjoy! Duke
