6th Verse Breakdown

Hey Sonic Junction -

I’m back, and in this week’s lesson I’m emphasizing the incalculable value of fully attentive listening. As I’ve said many times - if you can’t hear it, you’ll never be able to play it. There are sometimes easily overlooked details in play that can operate in concert to create the overall effect so: learn to listen and listen to learn. Verse six, the one we’re breaking down this week, starts out with some sharp, staccato triplets. After that we’ve got some scoops, and long, trombone-like, swelling and descending tones. We’ll utilize some of the push/pull that’s available to us on the third hole - sometimes employing that three hole, blow as a borderline ghost note. There’s a real cool, semi-tricky lick on the V before we sneak out of the verse with a recurring thematic little figure.

So, turn your ear into an aural microscope, and remember, small things can make a big difference!

Rick
