Hello Friends,
For this weeks lesson we are finishing up Frankie and Johnny. The chorus we are starting with is the stop time chorus that is so effective with the volume control swells. Then there are the two shout choruses that end the song. They are call and response and are meant to be answered by another instrument. It could be a saxophone, a keyboard, another guitar. Whatever instrument you have. This is one of the most fun songs I know to play and I want to see you all post videos for this one.

Happy new year Duke! Thanks for all the great lesson's in 2017, can't wait to kick off 2018 with 'Worried Life Blues' (so many great versions to choose from - I love Chuck Berry's and of course Big Maceo).
Here's my ignorant cut of Frankie & Johnny - I took your advice and flew by seat of my pants.
Apologies for not posting videos of late - simple reason being I'm am hugely ignorant in all things technological (not just my guitar playing ; ) There used to be a video icon on SJ that I just clicked and recorded, but since that went I never learned how to do it for myself. But, thanks to your nudge, I've worked it out. So my new year's resolution is to do at least one video for every song.
My other resolution is to practise with a metronome. Beyond that do you have any advice on a daily practise schedule?

And Peter -- WOW! Nice job, man! That really sounds great; I can hear how much you've put into this one. Well worth the effort. The way you simplified the ideas to keep them within your technique was a great choice to make. I wish more guitar players would self-edit by about 70%. ;-) But seriously, really nice work.

Very good Bruce, You are doing good at straying from my solo and playing your own lines. I would lighten up your pick attack a bit, it will help your flow. Good job, you are sounding better all the time.
