In this lesson, I'll introduce to you the song Little Red Rooster. In a moment we are going to learn it in standard tuning, but first, I want to show it to you the way I do it which is in the key of A, but in drop D tuning. So it is a little more advanced, but it helps to show you the cadence, the groove of this acoustic version of the tune. It shows how effectively single notes can be used to produce a groove that is simple and complex at the same time.
When I teach it in standard tuning, still in the key of A, some things change, such as the D9 chord. One thing that does not change is the use of the left pinky on the A chord and the use of the right thumb on the open A string.
Just give it a listen.

Guy Davis should have his own channel on here! Thanks Mr. Davis always a pleasure listening to you play!
Cody, it's a wonder they let me anywhere near the Internet. We should be sitting with two guitars on the deck of my magic houseboat trailing a couple of beers In the cold water because my cooler's out of ice (and out of beer for that matter)
Running out of beer seems to be always the problem.. as long as you have the Houseboat i'll supply the beer! Got some very nice beer up here in the northeast.
Hy Guy...I'm glad you're again giving lesson here in SJ..Here's my video. Thanks in advance for the advices. I've just seen you're playin @ club il giardino in lugagnano di sona. I don't know if you played there before, but anyway, it's a really nice place You will like it
Wow Alex! You don't need any lessons from me. Your guitar work sounds alot like my friend Eric Bibb. You've got this tune down solid. Next time you see me, make sure that you are singing it too.
Thanks Guy! I'm a big fan of Eric Bibb....I've seen him play@Lugagnano di Sona I think 3 times...for this reason Eric remembers very well my friends, my wife and me...I studied his tune..Goin Down Slow and I thought to throw some licks even in your version of little red rooster....
I'm not a good singer....and my english pronunciation is really italian...but I'll try.....:)
I've been gone from SJ for awhile, but Guy Davis brought me back. Listened to his stuff on YouTube. What a great guItarist! Looking forward to the next lesson.
Thank Chicago Bill. I stole everything I know. (But I earned it by practicing until it became my own.)
wow, this is great
Thanks Jay.I hope that you can get Something out of it.
