Happy Holidays to all Sonic Junctionites!
This time out we've got a relatively simple sounding, slow/medium shuffle. It's in the key of E, on an A harmonica. The song sounds simple on the surface, but there're a lot of little supportive devices in play, keeping the groove afloat. With the current pandemic situation in mind, given that many of us are practicing strict social distancing, I created a piece with enough groove defining components that it can either stand on it's own as a solo piece, or work well with an accompanist. With that in mind, we'll call it "The Lockdown Shuffle".
The piece is very loosely based on an old boogie woogie theme that may have been created by Pinetop Smith in the late 1920s and was later adapted by scores of artists - people all the way from Tommy Dorsey to Big Walter Horton. In this series we'll work on different tonguing techniques and effects, along with some precision bending - especially between holes 2 and 3. We'll also work on implementing some contrasting tones and textures, and as usual, I'll tie everything together with some personal opinions on strategy and musical architecture.
As always, keep the groove front and center, and make sure to have fun with it!

Hi Rick !! Very good song !! I m I right ?? ... you do 8 bars on the 1 for the intro , and another 8 bars from the 4 , and after 12 bars 1-4-5 chord progression till the end ?? Happy to see you back !!
Hey Andre! I think it's 8 bars for the intro, after that I go to the IV, I, V, and finish out the verse. In other words, after the intro portion, it goes to 8 bars of a normal blues verse, beg from the IV.
Nice thing! Is it the title of new Nightcat's album;)?
I don't think so ;-)
This year couldn't end better!
Holy Moly. Sounds like Rick is just a little bit tired of lock downs and wants to BUST OUT - very aggressive.....and not in the least bit a simple performance - so much happening within the groove, etc. However, if all the students are also locked down, they will have plenty of time to do a deep dive here - silver lining in a dark cloud, maybe?
We'll see what happens Larry - I alway intend to keep it simple, but it always ends up multi-layered.
Damn this is going to be a fun song to learn thanks this is a great one, working it now
Thanks Boyd! That's the main thing - have fun with it!
