Hey Sonic Junction, it's Rick Estrin, back to tell you about verse 5 of this "Lockdown Shuffle". This verse is a lot about contrast - There's tonal contrast, and a semi-abrupt switch in phrasing from the previous verse's more legato approach to a more staccato rhythmic feel. Texturally, to contrast with the single notes, we're employing chords and partial chords, along with trills or warbles. This week, in addition to learning the licks and the phrasing, I want you to experiment a little bit with the shape of your oral cavity. Try finding different embouchures, and jaw positions and notice how you can alter your sound by adjusting the size and contour of the compression chamber inside your mouth. Remember, seemingly small things can make a big difference.
Have fun, stay safe, and I'll see you next week.
Rick
