You Don't Love Me That Way

Vocal Verse Breakdown

Hey Sonic Junction -

I'm back, and this week I'll be addressing the way the harp in the vocal verses works - I'll break down the harp playing in the fills and on the tag at the end of the verses. I'll also talk a little bit about Sonnyboy's quirky vocal phrasing. I demonstrate a rough approximation of it, but I recommend doing a little research on your own and listening to some John Lee "Sonnyboy" Williamson, also known as Sonnyboy Williamson #1. Sonnyboy had a unique, urgent sounding, but always rhythmic way of phrasing that was very effective. Along with his trademark phrasing, his delivery was warm and conversational. The harp playing on these vocal fills uses chords, single notes, and tongue slaps, and it's in the groove at all times.

Have fun with it and stay safe and healthy!
