Sweet!  Made we want to pull out my guitar and play along!

One of my favorite blues songs.  The song is in the key of C and Sonny Boy is playing cross-harp (2nd position) using an F harp.  I am (trying) to accompany him in third position using a Bb harp.  Rich

Hi All,

We're developing the ability for you to slow down the video.  So imagine you want to work on a certain phrase / solo.  You will be able to loop it AND slow it down.  Here's an example

SLOW DOWN and loop @ 7:04 to practice the second chorus at 75% speed (the slow down gives a bit of an echo)

Hi All,

We've added a YouTube video looper.  When you insert a YouTube video into a post, comment ... we overlay the Sonic Junction controls and looper .. so you can control YouTube videos just like other videos in Sonic Junction.  Here's an example

loop @ 0:00 to practice the Eric's intro solo

loop @ 4:08 to practice the first part of Eric's solo

Hi Roger,

Glad you like the webcam recording.  Yes, I think there is something magical when you make something simple.  That's a really important part of what we're trying to do.  Make it as simple as possible to learn and communicate musically with people.

Yes, the transition is going to be easy to a subscription membership.  It's just a matter of signing up for the subscription via PayPal.  I will be sending out the details on this next week.

Great videos by the way!

Mike

Not only a great song with tasty harp, but, in this version, Phil Alvin plays a nice guitar.

This is my favorite version, mainly because of the harp.

We're working on a YouTube video looper ... so you can loop certain sections of a video to get a riff or solo fixed in your mind ... and also practice along with.

Imagine if you wanted to learn Little Walters Key to the Highway ... you could loop between 1:25 and 1:52.

If we had this feature ... how useful would it be for you, and what songs would you want to learn?

Roger
Roger Mar 13, 2012

Mike this new feature is working great, It couldn't be any easier! Great addiiton. I've noticed that it looks like you are about to take Sonic Junction to production. Will there be a way for beta members to easily transiiton into subcription, or will we need to resubscribe?  Thanks again for creating a great product !

Roger

Duke, I just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed your lessons.  I particularly liked your little discourse on what constitutes playing the blues from the guitarist's perspective in How Long Blues Lesson #5 ("The VALUE of the note").  Not an easy thing to put into words.  I was also going to ask you a question about your picking style.  You tend to use top-down picking more, particularly when you want a staccato effect, switching to alternate occasionally when it is more efficient.  Is this a conscious choice or something that you just do naturally?

Roger
Roger Mar 12, 2012

Thanks Mike. It looks very simple. Can't wait to try it out this evening.

We are pleased to announce a new feature on Sonic Junction:  Direct Webcam Video Recording.  Direct webcam video recording allows you to record a video of yourself right in Sonic Junction to share with Duke, Corey, Jerry and other sonic Junction members.  Below is a 90 second video demonstrating the new feature and the resulting video.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Below is the resulting video.

Duke,

When did Chan's Restaurant first come into the picture for Roomful of Blues?  This area (in the shadows of Boston) seems to have been a small mecca of Jazz & Blues in the wake of World War II.

Various Roomful members continue to play this unexpected (but cool) jazz & Blues venue to this day!

Duke Robillard and longtime friend and sideman Scott Hamilton play Chan's Restaurant in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

Bluest Regards,

Tim.

Hi,

The first solo lesson of Memphis Grind is not working. The video doesn't show up and the tabs are all the way to the right and cut off.

Maybe the webmaster could take a look at it ;)

Thanks

Hi,

I was buying some Hound Dog Taylor songs on Itunes and "The Goat" was listed under his songs (off the album "Come On In This House"). It's clear, however, Junior Wells is singing and playing harp, so I was wondering if anyone knows if Hound Dog Taylor was playing guitar, or if something was off in the way this song was listed?  Thanks. Rich

We've made some more refinements to the UI and also how we organize and display lessons.  Please let me know your thoughts and if you see something that isn't quite right ... please let me know.

Thanks!

You're welcome Duke :)) I'm not very expert with music theory but about woman body language...well this is something that is international!!! :)) I only share another video because I'm monopolizing this 3d but I'd glad if you listen this song of an estimated italian songwriter..His name was Fabrizio De Andrè..I don't know if you ever heard of him before. Some people say that he's the italian Bob Dylan, others, me included, say that Bob Dylan, with all my respect for him, is the american Fabrizio De Andrè..This song is called Dolcenera and first time I've heard it.....no words!!! The young man playin behind him is his son, Cristiano De Andrè :))

Hello Alex, That is very cool music using the 1 and the 5 to create a spellbinding effect. Between the hypnotic effect of the music and the woman dancing, I believe it could cure a tarantula bite! thanks for sharing, Duke

Hy Duke...nice to talk to you...sorry for not being very present at your lessons but at the moment I'm really focused on acoustic blues. I don't even have an electric guitar but as soon as possible I'd like to fill this gap that I have...At the moment I'd prefer, as we say in Italy,  to not put too much meat on fire!!! :)))

Playing for change is an incredible music project...the thing that I like is that you can hear really good music by musicians that nobady knew before this project was implemented...Take Roberto Luti as an example..He used to play his resonator guitar in New Orleans. It's incredible what nowdays is possible thanks to technology...people from everywhere playin the same song. And Sonic Junction is a great project too. I think it's really innovative expecially for what economist call as knowledge spillovers...all this knowledge shared by experienced musicians to let's say normal people like us to create a really added value thanks again to technology and Mike and all you teachers!!! :))

But to remain on topic I'd like to share with you all another genre of music that first time I heard I remained with no words...It's called pizzica (actually is a dance) and it's from Salento whic is part of Puglia, a region here in Italy....This music, in the past, was also used to cure people from the byte of the spider tarantula :)...So here music is used like a medicine..There's something similar also in Senegal as far as I know...It's called ndeup!!! Power of music!!! :)))

Of course this is all great music and great performances. Music truly is the universal language

Hi Alex, That was really beautiful! And I love the no changes thing and all the different players and genres. Verry Cool!

Can I add also this one? Playin for Change I think is one of the best musical project ever made...Don't know if you guys have ever heard about this incredible mixture of genres, artists, cultures and above all positive vibrations for all of us :))
