I saw somewhere that you are offering private lesson on-line, Zoom or Skype. I am interested, not sure what the requirements are. Please inform me.

I have asked this questions before now but I have not received an answer.

Wondering if you'd like to cover the greatest ballad ever written....Body and Soul?

Hi Dennis

I am just getting started on your lessons and am really enjoying Scale Down. I'm self-taught and have played blues harp off and on for years but never even knew about the blues scale. What an eye opener!

I notice that you play a Hohner Crossover harmonica. I've tried Lee Oskar but wasn't completely happy and most recently have been using the Hohner Special 20 which I really like. Do you think I should give the Crossover a try? They are a bit more expensive than the Special 20, but I'd definitely try one if you think it might make a difference in my playing.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Eric

Hi Duke!

After a number of years I am finally back for more fun! Thanks for still being here and doin' this.  :)

I have a couple of tune requests ... first up is one of your interpretations ... “Blue Coat Man”. It is such a fun song live.

Next is more of an open request, up to you really. I have been a Robert Gordon fan since the late seventies. I had read somewhere a while back that you played with Robert for a bit. I have seen him live a number of times primarily with Chris Spedding on guitar and one time with an entirely unfamiliar band. So, I'd be interested in learning a tune that you played with Robert (I know it was a long time ago) and how you approached his style of rockabilly ... perhaps "Black Slacks" would be a really nice one ... it has a bit of a jump kind of feel to it ... if you played that one live. I really love the “rockabilly-inspired” tune that you did with Arlen Roth a ways back, “Housafire”, and I am intrigued by this side of your playing

Anyway happy to be able to get back here and I'm ready to have some fun!!!

Cheers!

Hi Chris, a question about alternate picking. I find it most difficult to keep the up/down pattern going solidly when I have a down stroke on a string and then it should be followed by an up stroke on the next string above it (for example, a down stroke on the D string followed by an up stroke on the A string). It seems a little easier to just do two down strokes in a row there, but then of course there's an interruption in the alternate picking, which feels a little ackward, too. What do most accomplished pickers do in that situation?

Transcribed a section of Duke and Herbs recording of Train to Texas track at a slower tempo.

Some great lines in it, stuck a few chords in to fill it out.

Hello Chris,

Actually I signed up on Sonic Junction to learn some harmonica from Jerry Portnoy. I browsed around and found your lesson offerings. I put my guitar away a couple of years ago but I'm gonna drag it back out. I could never get the hang of playing rhythm guitar the way I wanted to. I'll be back after I put on some new strings and clean my guitar up some.

Hey Chris!

Been on the site for about a week now and wanted to say hello. I've been playing the guitar again for a little over a year now after about a 13 year break of not picking it up. Was over on ArtistWorks with Bryan and wanted some variation so I'm here now and will probably be jumping back and forth since the info in both places is invaluable.

I'm enjoying having the half speed video feature since it's aiding me in throwing out the tabs and figuring things out by ear. It can be a bit more difficult but I think it's helping me out more doing it that way. So far I've figured out your first variation of Gold Rush and Whiskey Before Breakfast and looking forward to learning more that way.

Here's a semi warmed up version of what I think is one of the more challenging things I know. My apologies for the mirrored camera. Future videos should be the "correct" view. I'm fluctuatiing around 95bpm here and usually play it around 108-115 when fully warmed up.

Right now I'm trying to focus on playing more relaxed. I've noticed my shoulders hold quite a bit of tension and in this video I felt as though I had more of a tense grip on both the pick and in my fretting hand.

Well I guess that's about enough for now.

Thank you,

Dave

P.S. Would love to see Salt Creek, Monroe's Hornpipe, Watson's Blues, St. Anne's Reel and/or Bill Cheatham added here at some point.

Caught your interview with Michael Daves on Artistworks from this summer and saw you talk about your '44 (?) D28.  You mentioned the neck is not the standard 1 3/4".  Is it a 1 11/16?  I've been starting to have some hand pain that I can't shake.  Getting worried.  I've been playing a D18 1 3/4", considering a change to 1 23/32 or 1 11/16.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey is there any way to mark my place in a lesson so I can come right back to it next time? Also is there any way to save a list of all the lessons I've tried?

Hey Duke!  Just heard a tune of yours that I hadn't heard for a while and thought it might make a good lesson for somewhere down the road--Red Dog.  And I don't mean Elvin Bishop's guitar!

Hi Duke,

I am from Brazil and I live in Iowa City, Iowa. You are a huge influence on me and I love all your albums as well. I've learned a lot of your songs from your albums but some of them I can't play exactly how do you play. Could you do a lesson with these 2 tunes below that I love? I am also a huge T-Bone fan.

1- Glamour Girl (Stretchin' out - Live)

2- Love is Gamble (Blue Mood)

Love you man!

Hey Chris, just caught the video of you working w/ Collings on the Traditional Satin D2.  Really a lot of fun to watch and inspiring to see you play.

As you've played your fair share of amazing instruments over the years, would you be willing to share a few thoughts on the guitar and how it compares to vintage or other newer guitars?

Hope everybody is staying safe and playing lots of guitar.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi :

I recorded an audio file for one of the lessons, and I tried to upload it, in order to get a review or comments, but once you upload it, if you click on it, you don´t get any sound, it gets stuck at 0:00, and you can´t play the file.

I tried uploading different audio file types (.MP3 or WAV) and it does not work in any of both formats. Is there something I need to know about the audio files that can be uploaded? Thank you

A series covering most of the muddy waters blues band stuff would be cool.... it’s a massive foundation in blues harp with many great solos and subtleties used.... there are some lessons available but none with backing tracks and none in real detail . This stuff often comes up at jams and all the great harp players played this stuff in muddys band . A Muddy Waters Blues Band Harmonica Series needs be done someday .....

Great, glad it worked out! I'm sad about the camp as well, but we're hoping to reschedule! You stay safe as well and I look forward to seeing you sometime before too long!

Hi there,

I've posted several videos over the past couple of years, but can't recall which lessons they were for. Is there a way to search on posts i've made?

Thank you very much. I fixed the pickup based on what you said. Thank you! I am very satisfied. I could not join your camp because of the virus, but I will wait for another day to see you. Thank you, Critter! Take care of your health.
