Hello Friends,
This week we are starting on one of the coolest blues tunes of the 40s. I'm talking about Charles Brown's first big blues hit Driftin' Blues featuring Johnny Moore playing some of the silkiest blues guitar I've ever heard. I love the guitar on this recording and we will to sound the the man himself on this one.
First off, as always we start with a 4/4 rhythm guitar part with simple changes so you get the groove quickly.

Another error I've been meaning to mention is the last chord, which is labeled as a Bb7#5. It should be a B7#5.

Hi Duke. Thanks for a great lesson. I was looking at the chord progression you are playing and it seems to me that the written diagram doesn't seem to be aligned. I believe you are playing the Eb/A and the C7 later on the progression on the I and not on the IV. From C7 you go down to B7 and then you do a II IV turnaround...I might be wrong but I will follow what you are playing, which is right and beautiful! Txs,

That's good Ian, let me point out when you do the decending chords E/B G dim the next chord should be B7 before going back to E7. Keep up the good work! Duke
So I know I'm jumping the gun, so to speak, but the solo was just so cool, I had to dive in! Pretty close, I think. I'm really trying to internalize the phrasing.
By the way, that is a *great* photo of you with Muddy that you posted on Facebook! Do you have a higher resolution version of it? I'd love to print it out and put it up in my guitar room!

I"m very excited about the new lesson, because as a piano player, I've always loved Charles Brown. I'm going to make a piano backing track for myself to play along with. I'd be glad to upload it here in case anyone else might want to use it.
Peter, I'm glad you pointed out the chord error, I was going to do that. I think I spotted a couple of other errors in the transcription, but I need to review that.
