Hi Folks,
This weeks lesson is the first A section of my solo on Honeysuckle Rose. I put together a simple solo that shouldn't be too difficult for you. We will take it a section at a time. I advise you to listen to as many versions of this song as you can and try to pick some stuff up by ear. Try listening to Charlie Christian's version with Benny Goodman, Nat Cole with Oscar Moore and any other hundreds of versions. And listen to ALL the soloists not just the guitar. I have gotten as much from horn and keyboard players or more maybe than from guitarists. Work on it and when you're ready post your take on it.
Enjoy!
Duke

Hey Duke! I always learn so much from learning your solos, especially your nuances in phrasing. Sometimes one of your rests causes the rest of the phrase to get much cooler. I especially love that lick that you do in the 10th bar, where you slide up, play a note higher, then slide back down fast. I love that sound. I can't consistently get that great sound you get on it, but I'm working on it. Hey, if you have a chance, please watch the video I uploaded the other day for Route 66. I'd love to get your thoughts on that one too. Thanks, Bruce.
Here's my cut of where we are so far (some obvious fluffs, which I can't try and pretend I intended as jazz! ; )
Great lesson as always Duke!
