Hi Folks,
This week we are doing the last A section of the solo for Honeysuckle Rose. We start off after the bridge by playing a short reference to the melody then a rake on a riff that is reminencent of Barney Kessel. I follow that with a "quote" from Duke Ellington's Rockin' in Rhythm melody. It's common in jazz to quote little sections of melodies as well as solo parts to make up your solo statement. Having a warehouse full of melodies and riffs that work over swing changes can only help when it comes to improvising a solo. In this video lesson I give a lot of advise about this sort of thing and remember, listening to a lot of this music is important to getting the riffs and sounds in your head. So listen to lots of swing and as many versions of each song you want to learn as you can. It will really help. So let's see some videos of you playing the whole song and I will make suggestions for you.

By pure chance I found a "jazz drum track brushes 150 bpm back track"( on the Tube) and it doesn't sound that faster than Duke's105bpm. How come ?it seems to fit Honeysuckle perfectly. Any suggestion on how to get some brushes back tracks are welcome! ( I can't stand the click of the metronome)

I sometimes do it better, I still have quite a few hours 's works before mastering the tune, but I hve lmost memorise it !once step t time!
