Soryy i repost that video because i'll make them private on youtube and i though it may help some student to let them on SJ. Sorry for the notification.
@Corey Only the intro for now :) I compare the two video and see that you put more energy in your intro ! And you slap the strings a little, no ? I'll change my intro in the next video. Thanks for the Lesson Corey.
@Mike The video option is cool now i can upload here from my Zoom and you can read it in big windows, it's great !!! No need to make a public video via youtube !
Hello Corey ! It's been a long time you've heard of me i was so busy i didn't watch the lastest video :( And i hadn't the time to wish you a Happy new year for 2014 ! Hope everything will be good for you and your family this years. And I wish all my best for all the SJ team and students too (We're still in juanary after all) !
I tabbed this song and played it from the youtube version this summer, it's cool to see your version now, some tricks were missing. I love this song :)
Time's past so quickly i haven't finish Diddie wah diddie... I like Too TiGht and the solo part ! Havin the raG thumb is for me the hardiest part of raGtime ! It's not natural at all ! cool lesson Corey !
@At Corey i've finaly got what you play on the verse and the last detail of the intro. I have to work it now. It's really nice to have a second voice under the melody !!
@Peter : Yes you're right it's a standard blues although in Blake version it's not alway clearly a IV chord in the tenth measure. Sometimes he'll stay on the V or just play a lick on it. But it's a 12bar blues for sure :)
Hello Corey, in case or you miss my last video i put it by Youtube. I've download the last one without youtube and maybe you didn't notice it it was just a little icon...
@JD...I dig the tone that you get from the guitar here and your touch on the slide is nice and light. I think you should focus on the rhythm of the song, make it swing more. Try putting more emphasis on the '2' and the '4' beat and see how that feels.
here's my first try. It's a draft. The intro is not very clear and there's a lot of strings that shoudn't be ringing (and i should not sing before playing well the backing guitar but i wanted to play it quickly...)
Otherwise, there's a lick i'm not sure that i play it well on the first E bars of the verse with the C# on the second string. I don’t know if you play it with the thumb or the index… I hope you can explain it in the next lessons ?
Cool !! I love this song and i wanted to ask about it in the forum :) ! I've worked it in C a little but i knew you've play a slide version in open E and wanted to learn it ! Thanks a lot Corey
Hello Corey, i have to say that i won't make a new video for this lesson (I've made one for the third lesson) because 12 days of vacation have been terrible for my progression ! i've learn a lot with this song but i don't feel to keep it in my repertory. As i said for Mississippi John Hurt's songs, the songs with a lot of lyrics are hard for me to sing and John Henry is a song telling a long story. So, i've just took what i "needed" but i won't record the whole song.
This song is a bigger fight than i thought ! I almost make 35 takes for this poor result but i wanted to post before i go for vacations. I start again when i come back and do the "This Train" Part.
@Alex : the song is hard for sure. When i say it's seems easier it was because there were less parts than Sweet Black Angel or Special Rider. But the melody is not easy to catch... Maybe because i don't have a version to listen on my mp3. So it don't enter in my head... but that the first time i though i throw my guitar to the window ;)
@ Alex i'll try to work it first ;) i'm not ready yet ! maybe on monday
@Corey I'll post for sure :) ! by the way have you take a look on my video for the open mic ? I'd love to have your opinion if you don't mind (and have time) :)
At first at said : "Hmm what a simply song", then i tried and said : "Hey, there's a cool soulfull lick with the 7-9-12 fret (B C# E)" and now i realised that havinga good phrasing with this melody is really challenging ! So i really appreciate it !
Always return to the basics and try to really makes sing thet first string as a voice :) ! Then, your second problem is to go to the B string and muting the E string... But first : Don't rush the tempo and try to groove. Then add variation to spice the whole song ! Here are the main line (plus singing variation of course) i think ! Did i forgot somethin ?
Well i wish i can post a video for you but it's a lot of work... It's really a hard thing to do ! As many student i record 10 takes (or more !) for a video because thare's alway a mistake somewhere and that's why posting a video is a really good thing :) ! But i'll promess i'll try to do something soon :) !

Hi JD --- sounds great. I agree with Corey, you have a nice light touch on the slide. Love the tone too!
