Blues Bunny Bite @ 0:12 on the timecode. No idea why I did it except that I was really trying to hear both what I wanted to play and what I was playing in my head. Getting better .. but still need a couple more weeks to really have it flow. That said .. this is the best I've ever played .. thanks DUKE !!
@Alessandro .. yes, Corey's touch is great .. I want to try and pick up those dynamics over time as that is what makes the music emotionally strong. I have an acoustic .. I will post with it next time. Great to have a blues mates!
You got the groove, lead lines and singing together. I'm still working on getting the groove and licks to flow. Very cool to see how far you've gotten ... it makes me want to play and practice more. I like the ragtime licks you threw in!
I have small hands and am having trouble with the 13th chords where you wrap around your thumb. I can kind of play them with the same fingering as Duke .. but am also experimenting with skipping a finger and playing the highest note with my pinky.
Is there anyone else out there that is having the same issue .. and has found a solution?
@Jason .. funny, same thing with me when I recorded myself playing .. I heard some things too in my playing and re-recorded a couple times .. and got better!
Hi Jason .. Great video! It's cool seeing what you have done with the solo. I'm going to have to learn some of those chords you are playing at the beginning .. and I really like the soloing .. especially the last chorus. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Corey .. thanks again for the lesson. Like you pointed out .. I really find that I can play some of these licks much better using my thumb and middle finger .. as opposed to trying to pick the bottom three three strings with three fingers (like when I play classical or some other fingerpickng tune).
Here's a video to show you what I mean. Any tips apprecitated!
Hi Duke .. love the lesson! Couple reasons .. first, I like that the licks are using a part of the fretboard I rarely play on .. so it's great to get more comfortable in this area and also learn about what you can create with hammer-ons and pull-offs around here.
Second, I just really love the call and response between the licks and the chords. There's something about these type of lines that just really resonates with me. I would personally like to learn more of these type of phrases .. maybe around some BB 6th and 9th chords.
That's awesome. I really like the groove of that one. I'm embedding the video below so people can see it (if you click on the red play button and insert the YouTube link it will embed the video). I would personally love to learn some of these progressions and how to solo over them. Great vocals too. It's just pure joy.
@forrest .. Great comment! Thanks for introducing me to Tiny Grimes .. WOW! Here's a video of him for people who aren't familiar with his playing to give us all more context to the conversation. Tiny starts his solo at 1:00 on the timecode .. great sax solo before him too.
OK .. here's where I am on the solo. I've been playing it through a couple times a day this week and it's starting to come together .. still need to make it more fluid and flow (I'm still thinking too much .. I think!)
Hey Corey .. really enjoying these riffs. I'm practicing them for 10 minutes each day and they are starting to become spinal. Love the feel of the song and will be using these licks for a long, long time. Thanks!

@Corey .. cool, thanks for the advice. I will take it easier on the E string .. it's a habit, I alway like bending that G on the E string.
Hi All,

Here's a nice image of Blind Blake. His guitar looks a bit like the parlor guitar Corey plays.
Hi Corey .. really like this tune .. it's all to true! I'm enjoying getting the chords down .. and have tried to start learning that first lick.
What would be a great second lesson for me is a really slow breakdown of the main 8 or 16 bars of the song .. that covers both the melody and bass.
Thanks!

I did some searching on the Charleston and found this video .. great groove. I'm enjoying the 13th chords .. thanks Duke!

Romance Withut Finance... I have been trying to play that for decades...

Hi Corey .. I'm enjoying these riffs .. thanks. One thing that a little tricky for me is the "choke" .. here's a video of me doing it .. any advice?
@standish .. yes, great idea. I've updated Duke's post with the backing track. Please let me know how it works for you.

Hi Rich .. OK, sounds good. If you let me know the timecodes, I can notetate some of them. I wouldn't mind learning some of those myself!
@rbaginski .. Have you checked out the first lesson?

Duke reviews the progression and chords. Or .. are you looking for the voicings / variations Duke plays in this lesson?
