Hi DaddyRay .. thanks for the feedback. For the chord chart, would you like to see fingerings or just the chord names. Also, if you can tell me a bit about how you would like to learn a song like this ... starting to end ... that would be great!
Hi DaddyRay ... thanks for feedback on the chord chart. Can you tell me more what you are thinking? Do you want just the chord names, or fingerings too?
If you have a couple minutes, it would be great to hear how you learn a song so I can understand the chord chart in the context of the whole process. Thanks!
OK, you guys inspired me ... I need to hit the woodshed on my slow blues.
Brandon you have great tone. Your picking techique is really cool... have very nice touch. That rake you do with your thumb at 0:58 is awesome. I'm going to try that out and see if it works for me. How and why did you start picking with your thumb like that?
Steve ... your tone and phrasing around 1:00 is great. It's like how your making the guitar squawk and talk ... and leaving space between the phrases. Takes the solo to a different place.
Hi DaddyRay & Duke .. Thanks. I updated the chords. C6 was easy ... it was a typo. I think I got the second chord correct ... both fingering and voicing. Let me know if you think otherwise. Thanks!
Hey Jerry ... just viewed this video again. Very powerful. After seeing this for the first time, I've been trying to listen and play (mostly guitar ... but harp too) ... with as little visual as possible ... and it is working really, really well for me. I still have a long road ahead, but I feel my playing and progress is "unstuck" ... which is really fun and exciting!
Hi Duke .. absolutely love this lesson! The Little Milton shuffle blew me away ... I'm going to learn all three choruses and get them into my head!
One question .. what you do on the third chorus starting at 1:05 to 1:30 on the timecode is beautiful. It's so melodic. Any thoughts on how I can learn / hear more ideas like that?
Jack Myers indeed! I never knew who he was, but alway loved Buddy Guy's A Man and the Blues ... especially One Room Country Shack. Now I know the story. Love it! Thanks Brad.
I agree Duke, totally mind expanding the way he plays.
Hi Bill .. I saw your question about counting the beats. One thing Corey emphasized was tapping your foot, getting the rhythm in your head and your body. It totally worked for me. From the videos I see of Duke, I bet he does it too (that's the hand clapping you thought heard in one of the previous lessons) ... and you can notice how Duke's head and body move around as he plays ... the music is going through him in some way.
Whenever I have trouble now I slow it down to where I can tap my foot and play ... and once that becomes natural, then speed it up. Hope that helps!
Hi Corey .. I've been foot tapping and playing it slow .. and now I can get through the whole chorus. Love the tune. Now I'm going to try and relax, settling into the groove and make it musical .. is that the right next step?
Hi Corey .. I'm really enjoying this tune .. thanks! Here's where I am. I've got some of the individual riffs down, now I'm working on linking them together. The syncopation is a little hard for me. A really slow run through with an extra loud foot tapping the beat would help me. I'm still not there yet to work on brushes etc. ... but looking forward to it as the are awesome!!
Hi Brian .. added some tab for Duke's riffs around 16:00.. Also, let me know if there any more riffs that catch you ear and want tab for after you get these down. Enjoy!
Hi Bill .. I'm tabbing the first chorus of the solo right now .. you should see it in about 3PM west coast / 6PM east coast. Funny, I'm right on the chord at this moment .. yes, it's a B7.
Hi Corey .. one thing I'm noticing is you brush the strings at times ... like at 5:55 on the timecode ... and it adds this nice depth / feel. How do you approach / choose when to do this?
Great tune and lesson Corey !! This song really gets in your head. I like the bounce. I was having trouble with the basic riff, especially the rhythm of it for the first couple days ... but once I practiced and slept on it a couple times, it's starting to come naturally.
I really found the break down of the main lick and the slow run through of the intro very useful. I did the main riff for the first couple days until that started to feel natural and now I'm working my way through the intro. This approach is working well for me. Thanks!
I was learning this last night, and the thing that struck me is the phrasing. How important it is ... and how much working on it will improve my playing. It's hard to describe, but the way you play it ... the music comes alive in such a beautiful way.
Hi Alex .. I fixed your YouTube video issue. We need just the plain link for it to work. YouTube sometimes has some extra items in the URL that contain more information. We can recognize and strip this out in a future release.

Hi Corey ... here's where I am with the tune. I'm really enjoying it. Next is to work on the brushes and sing with it!

Wow .. Alex, you are getting the brushes! Ahead of me as usual. Love the slap to on Catfish!
Thanks for spreading the word!! Let us know how the interview goes!!

Hi Brian .. I would be happy to transcribe some more. Any riffs in particular you would like me to do?
(start and stop timecodes would be great)
Thanks!

SWEET turnaround Duke! Definitely going to add that to my bag of tricks. Kind of has a Hideaway type of feel.
