Hi Catya,

Thanks for the feedback.  Glad you are enjoying Duke!  I can work with you to get the technology things in order.

1. For the lag, was this on some of the slowed down videos?  .. also, about how long was the lag?

We do have the sheet music move before the video so people can look ahead at the music.  In reviewing the lessons, I noticed that this was a bit too much for my taste on the slowed down videos.  It would be great to get your perspective ... and also confirm that I'm looking at the right issue.

2. For the framing .. when the video and player are launched at the start .. is everything the right size?  If so .. it seems like the best solution for you would be able to have the window go full screen .. is that true?

3. Finally, what type of computer are you using (PC or Mac) .. with what browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome or Safari)?

Thanks!

Mike

Hi,

Thank you for the work you've put into this project. Slick.

I have two things going on I'm hoping you can address:

First, I started with Duke's lesson 1 this morning--it worked fine and I was impressed with the technology (I've always been impressed with Duke. However, lessons 2 and 3 had a lag between the video and tab. I was in the side by side mode, if that matters.

Second, the pop up window is pretty small and if I try the <CTRL++> on it, it messes with the tab in an odd way and disapears to the right of the frame. To get a size that's reasonable for me, I have to <CTRL--> the page before I hit <play the lesson>, then use the browser's <view><zoom><zoom in> command sequence about 4 or 5 times to get a decent size. Perhaps you could make it easier to size the entire frame for the pop up?

TIA,

Catya

Here's a video of the Dean Route 66.  He does a great job of going through all of the pick-up configurations.  The playing starts around 0:40 on the timecode.  I love the all pick-ups on tone around 3:15 on the timecode.

Why did you choose to play the guitar?

For me, it was the beautiful sound of a slightly overdriven guitar ... and the ability to create great music with single note leads AND by punching / playing chords with different voicings.  Finally, it just stirred something deep in me.

@bluesnut .. Wow .. beautiful.  I love the finish and grain on that guitar.  P-90s probably sound great too!!

Duke,

Finger picking style on Jumpin The Blues or hybrid pick and fingers?  Sometimes it appears as though you use your forefinger (nail) as a pick.

Duke,

I meant to ask, will you be teaching these great old songs and how close to your playing is this transcription.

Billie Holiday's version of I Can't Believe. . . is on YOUTUBE

Hey Duke,

On the subject of comping those old and old-style jazz and blues songs. . .The Duke Robillard recordings from1990's  AFTER HOURS SWING SESSION brilliantly showcased songs that included this key guitar and piano element (comping) that kept those tunes chugging and bouncing along

Two songs that I learned from this collection were I Can't Believe You're Still in Love With Me  and I'll Never Be The Same.

I Can't Believe was recorded in 1933 by Billie Holiday (among countless other popular versions)  Billie's version featured The Teddy Wilson Orchestra.  Teddy was no slouch when it came to piano comping.  The guitarist on this version carries the main "bounce" as Teddy fills with subtle accents, much the way that Albi Coply (original Roomful pianist) has always done

Below is the original transcription guitar lesson that Walt Bibinger quickly scribbled while listening to the song in the last few minutes of a 1997 lesson. . .

Well Mike, I have to admit, I've been try to avoid this one. The reason is that I arranged it, recorded it and totally forgot it and only played it once and did 1 take of it. If you REALLY want to learn it, I'll re-learn it and teach it here.

Hi Slim, Yes Jumpin the Blues is a great tune and I arranged the head in a simple chord melody with Brass sections type answers. I will most likely teach this after Cookin which is up next. Thanks, Duke
