Hi Jim -- we have a track and will publish it next week.

Hi Duke,

The tune "The Woman I Love" by B.B. King has been one of my favorites since I picked up the old Kent album back in the early 70s in the 50 cent bin. It's not super technical, but the nuances of his playing make it so special. I don't have a 78 of it, but when I saw this video on YouTube of someone playing the 78, I remembered how much I loved it and wanted to request it for a future lesson.

Thanks!

Bruce

Hi Mike -- Are there still plans to add a backing track to Rick's Chicago Shuffle?

Good job Tam

Albert Collins used an open tuning - apparently F minor (F-C-F-Ab-C-F). So trying to duplicate Frosty in regular tuning will be a noble effort.

Good job

Steve

Very, very nice.  Tone, phrasing and timing --- and most importantly --- fun to listen too!

I saw Albert Collins in the early 90's during a downtown festival --- he totally blew everyone away.  It was like he had lightning in his eyes that went right through his guitar.

What setup did you use?   --- your tone is great.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comments. The set up is just a tele plugged straight into a fender blues jnr   the volume is set really low. just got the amp a few weeks ago great wee amp . Gigged with it too and it was perfect. i like to keep things uncomplicated as I've no clue when it comes to gear.

Duke,

I hope you'll consider doing a lesson series on Willie Johnson. The stuff he played on Wolf's first recordings can be pretty wild. I'd especially appreciate you working up "Highway Man." I've been working on it myself recently, but I'm sure you'd add a lot of insight and a fresh perspective.

Hi Dave,

Glad you are enjoying Sonic Junction.  Good question.

Our regular monthly membership rate is $19.95 / month.  Along with the monthly membership we offer a "two months free" discount if you sign up for a year --- i.e. our $199 / year annual plan.

For the past couple years, we have offered a holiday special where we take an addition $20 off of our annual plan --- or "three free months" --- i.e. our $179 / year holiday special annual plan.

So the "three free months" are part of the purchase for the year --- they aren't accumulated.  I hope that makes sense and sorry if this was confusing.

In terms of account expiration date, you can find it on your PayPal email confirmation or by asking us via the Contact Us page.

Early next year we plan on upgrading our payment system to take credit and debit cards directly.  As part of that upgrade we will show the expiration date as part of new "My Account" page.

Well, nothing YOU play is same old, but me, that's another story.

I am playing with Buddy Whittington over at his house once a week, and that's a real shot in the arm. He likes your playing a lot.

Best regards...

Greetings Steve.  Wow.  I don't often play blues in D standard tuning.  I will think about that though.  There is a need for something that is not the same old in the world....Thanks

We just had this amazing harp blowout here in Phoenix:

http://www.rhythmroom.com/event/640409-blues-harmonica-showcase-phoenix/

And watching the first series of players, it becomes very apparent that being able to sing really adds to the performance.

I figure you can learn just about anything on line nowadays. Do any of you have any suggestions or guidance for someone wanting to learn how to sing?

Brian...you hit the nail on the head! If your inner ear is hearing the sound of second position, this will spill over into almost any position you play. Spend some time listening to original players using third position and get that sound into your head...

btw, making third position sound like second is pretty sophisticated playing...most players usually make each position sound like that position and don't have the ability that you have right now...

Hi Boyd --- we don't have plans for this in the short term --- but are considering making some 'Toolbox' type of lessons that cover the essentials and make sure everyone is on the same page before they start trying to tackle the songs.

Thanks for the reply Jerry, there doesn't seem to be a lot of blues chromatic instruction on the net and it would be good to learn some of the basics.

Great, stuff, Corey.

I have a coupla plain old blues lyrics that I would like to sing in D, and I would love to see a lesson in standard tuning that would give us some approaches to playing the blues in D that are NOT just the same old same old.

If you think about.

Again, really enjoying your lessons.

That guy was also great -- but he had a very interesting evolution - he was playing somewhere and met a very lovely white banjo player who was interested in slide guitar - they got married and formed a musical partnership.  And they are always touring. They are fantastic - not just blues but what we call here roots music.  Sparky and Rhonda Rucker

http://www.sparkyandrhonda.com/

They do a lot of old time music, ala Woody Guthrie era.  Here's a clip on YouTube of Spary playing spoons, Rhonda playing banjo doing "Which Side are you On?"  An old union song about organizing coal miners in Appalachia.

No overdose here.  And you're right I zoned in on his blues playing too - fantastic talent.  Gave it up for a woman though, not drugs.  He still does play some blues.

Vinny...just seen the video on youtube...that bluesman playin robert johnson...if I had possession over judgement day and come on in my kitchen....there's no video of Robert playin the guitar....but if i could imagine the way he used to play, this musician really "reminds me" robert...not talkin only about his incredible technique, but the way he's feelin what he's playing...looks like he's possessed by the soul of RJ....I don't remember now his name. If I remember well he died relatively young...overdose!!??!!!?

Each position on the harmonica will have it's own particular advantages and disadvantages, and sounds/patterns that work well. Little Walter's "That's It" is a great tune, as well as some early George "Harmonica" Smith 3rd position solos from songs like "Telephone Blues" and "Blues Stay Away". Just keep in mind, the more you want to stray from the typical 2nd position style of playing 3rd position (focusing on the middle octave), the more difficult it can get, due to the different layout of the scale and some bending issues.

Thanks very much. I think for me it's also a matter of my ear training, in other word I've become very comfortable with the sound of second position andperhaps I'm still chasing that sound in my muscle memory. Listening to Little Walters "That's it" last night made me feel that I should retune my ear to what i'm trying to achieve. Thanks again.
