Hi Terry --- thanks for the feedback.  Alphabetical listings will be coming in about 2 weeks.

For the practice list --- you can remove lessons just like you add them --- go to the lesson page and click on the practice list icon.

Hi Mark --- Duke's Blues A Rama and Swinging The Blues lessons are back up.  Thanks for your patience.

I was unable to access Swinging the Blues and Lester Leaps In today. When I click on the lesson a blank white page opens but nothing runs.

Thanks

Hi Paul --- thanks for letting us know and sorry for the issue.  You're correct --- we had an issue with one of our servers over the weekend.

It's now fixed.  Can you give it a try and let us know how it works for you?

Thanks.

Hi Corey

Bummer I just missed your gig in Sydney. Just wondering how & where can i find some exercises to get the bass thumb working steady like you discuss

Another frustrating problem: the lack of a clickable alphabetical index to lessons on a particular instructor's page! Does anyone else feel as if they spend half their time at the SJ just scrolling and scrolling, trying to locate that lesson you were using the last time.  I've tried putting lessons I use into my practice list in order to gain easier access to them, but then the practice list itself gets all impossibly long and jumbled since I can't figure out how to delete lessons.  This is one tremendous site, but there are definitly significant site design issues that need attention (IMHO nag, nag, nag)

HI Mark --- we have an issue with two of Duke's older lessons --- Blues A Rama and Swinging The Blues.  We should be able to resolve it in the next couple days (hopefully sooner).

Can you let me know if you've had issues with any other lessons?

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

FYI: Duke Robillard first several videos won't work on for me, but the others seem fine.

Talk about frustrating! I'd been looking forward to this all day. Videos are not playing. At all. They don't seem to be loading. What's the deal?

Must say i have listned to a few but you are by far the best teacher and player

Just have a question i find when im learning or playing that sometimes or most of the time is my bass beat disappers and dosent keep rythym i dont know if i am concentrating on the bass beat to much or what the problem is when i go to use my other fingers i have trouble in keeping them in time

Is there any excercises that can be practiced to help maintain thumb and fore finger sequence

OK, Mr. Duke.t, an old acquaintance of Greg Picolo (yeah I know he caused a lot of issues) living here in New Orleans.....got to say your blues lessons are SPOT ON.

Not trying to cop note for note note but just get a feel by ear.    By coincidence been working on BB King who loves that 6th chord spot on,  almost a doo-wop style.  You gave me some nice licks to work with.

Duke Robillard
Duke Robillard Aug 24, 2016

Hi Scott, Actually I do use a pick most of the time.Sometimes for certain styles i use my fingers or a combination of fingers and pick. For the guitar Slim sound for example, I find it impossible to be happy with my sound for that style unless I use my fingers. Im a stickler for sound and tone so if I really want to nail someones tonal essence, I use what ever they use. it's not a necessary requirement, just a matter of my own personal taste and style. When I play like me, i use a pick unless its a country blues where i can pull it off with my fingers. if i could do it all without a pick I would.Duke

I can answer that......play what you feel.  Pick, no pick, or use your teeth.   Its the blues,

Marty, for some reason I'm just seeing this now. It's beautiful. I'm very honored that most of these chords you say you learned for my lessons. Now I'm going to have to learn your arrangement! Thanks, beautiful job, Duke

Have you noticed Corey Harris' four-part lesson on singing?  I've never tried to sing before, and it has even me trying!

Terry Church

As a beginning harmonica student in serious need of hours and hours (more hours than there are in a day) of practice on 3 hole bends and articulation,  I sometimes fritter away those hours listening in on Corey Harris.  Do other SJers cruise the hubs?  Does anyone have tips for taking it beyond sheer listening pleasure, making time spent on "other" hubs more valuable in terms of learning to play one's own instrument?

Like I try to practice counting and rhythmic chord accompaniment along with Corey (Yes, Dennis, I'M COUNTING, I'M COUNTING!)  Somebody a little further along with the harmonica could also practice fills (Maybe because Corey frequently plays with Phil Wiggins, his soloing seems to invite harp fills).

Also, there's a lot of overlap on the songs he plays and the ones on the JP harp hub.  (Check it out.)  And some great harp standards such as "Bright Lights, Big City."

And icing on the cake: Corey has lessons on singing...

Any more ideas out there on utilizing the "other" possibilities provided by the SJ hub design?

Hi Terry --- it's good feedback and we appreciate you letting us know.  We're actually working on an update right now that improves the organization of lessons.  We didn't have an alphabetical sort --- but we will look to add it.

It should be out in the next couple weeks.

If you have any other thougths / frustration points --- please let us know.  It helps us to make a better service.

Wish I could take the previous comment back.  I'm kind of new here and tend to get lost a lot looking for the lessons I want, which frustrates me, so then I make halfbaked suggestions for improvement...Pretty soon I'll probably learn my way around and wonder what all the fuss was about.  The instruction I get from SJ is worth the effort. Thanks to everyone involved in providing it.

Great show last week in St.Louis at the Blues City Deli.    Hard workin' band,  big sound,  they leave it all on the band stand,  fun, fun, fun, rock, rock, rock. Great Harp, guitar, bass, drums.

Thanks Dennis!!

SJ is in every other respect super great and I love it BUT there's that navigation problem!!!  Lessons seem to be in some kind of random order, so that on the JP hub when I want to locate a particular lesson by Rick Estrin or Dennis Gruenling I find myself scrolling down the whole extensive JP listing, looking for the pictures of Rick or Dennis.  Couldn´t there be a search feature?  Or at least a CLICKABLE alphabetical listing of all the songs available on an artist's hub?  It would save so much time........(sigh)
