I went straight into this weeks lesson not having enough time for last weeks. i listened to it and you mentioned going over it again. I think the challenge will be putting this all together. The lessons are great and practical. I use whatever i pick up at my gigs, Being an 8 piece swing band, the additional knowledge is fantastic. Keep it going. I have gone back to many of the other lessons, but will upload the new ones. Cheers and keep swingin
I really like the boog-a-lou feel for this song. I have played it in the good ol Canadian key of A but i think the horns and every one else in the band will enjoy this feel. Looking forward to the rest of the lessons and introducing your version to the rest of the guys.
I just had to use my trusty L5 for this. Again i seem to lose my concentration at the end. oops. Thanks to Mike I now know to upload the video rather than using the on board link. Cheers Duke, great stuff.
Steve, Very good feel here. My suggestion here wold be at the end not to double up the hits on the Eb just before the final Bb Eb at the end of the A section. It makes it sound Latin. It actually sounds like Sonny Rollins "Saint Thomas" when you do that. You you could play the last part in 4- 4.
I think I'm comfortable with the meat of Honky Tonk, I know i need to tighten up the turn arounds which will be the focus for lesson 4, where again I am good with the main parts of the song. I'd really like to ease more into jazz/blues. I listened to Lester' Leap which i may no be ready for. Perhaps more 2,5,1 such as Satin Doll before the 6,3,5,1 (?) progressions.
Thanks again for the positive feedback. The guitar on my last lesson is my L5 Wes. It's kind of special. I am not the kind to collect guitars. Each has to have a place on stage. Thing is the L5 is not the typical tavern/beer joint guitar which forms the bulk of my engagments. Here i'll stick to my mjt jazzmaster/strat/tele or 335 which i really like. I have only had the chance to use the L5 live - a fund raiser. I am hoping to get more oppurtunities as I like that the guitar forces me to disipline my playing.
We'll moving right along, after your positive reinforcement from lesson 1 i thought i'd continue with this song. Looking forward to the next chance to finish the song and move on to what looks like some really neat stuff like Eddie Taylor.
Hi This is my first attempt in using a webcam - frustrating. The C7 in the chart is different from what i use in that it has no root but rather uses the G. I found my self using the traditional c7. THe Eb7 seems the same as the 7th cord in a Bb major scale ie Bb7min something or other, adding the f note on the b string with the pinky.
I find this form a nice challenge for me and i am looking forward to continuing beyong the trial period. I hope the broad band cost isn't huge as we have a different billing system here in Canada when it comes to broadband.
Hi Steve, Really good rhythm there. You have a good feel and I enjoyed your tone. Dont worry about the C7. It's a preference thing as to if you want to play the root or the 5 on the bottom. My general tendency is to play the 5 and leave the root area open for the bass player. Good to hear you and I hope you stay on board! Thanks, Duke

Hey Duke. I'm really enjoying the Flying Home lessons. Great intro.
Comments welcome.
In case you're wondering, its a Charlie Christian Lollar. Have you tried them?
Good Job Steve! My only recomendation is that you make sure you take that pause going into the augmented riff. Otherwise you end up a beat short. Duke

Really nice job Steve! I like the vibrato added to it. Is that a Gibson oir Epi Elitist? Duke
