@Corey...thanks....I often forgot the importance of dynamic...I'm still putting a lot of effort in tryin to balance touch on the strings cause, at the moment, if I lighten you can't hear the bass, if I dig in on the strings....I do it too much and sometimes I can hear some buzzes which could be even a part of the sound but it's not always intentionally..you know what I mean...
@Corey..thanks for your kind words...I know what you mean when you say that who teaches, learn at the same time! It's so true!!!!
Now I'm still tryin to figure out that quarter notes rythm...I really don't know why it comes for me more natural to do eight notes. Maybe it's easier for me to keep the time as doin it in quarter notes make me feel like I'm going out of tempo .mix the two things is always better than do only one over and over..
I've seen your interviews in Argentina....That "anthropologist" part was really funny....but I was quite sure too that you studied anthropology!!!..i read it somewhere...
I'll post a video soon and have a nice time in South America!:)
@Corey...here's my video...it's just the bass...I've tried to put the camera the closest I could to my right hand so you can see where I should change to get a better sound...
@Corey thanks...I'll upload a video but only with the bass because I'd like if you could check how the sound is going out...still tryin to find the way not to dig in too much on the strings and have at the same time a clear and powerfull steady bass line...by the way...you look much younger and friendlier with the beard shorter...:))
@Duke...it's only the first verse...I'm not very good in soloing...I've never tried to do it seriously as I'm focused on learning acoustic blues and for this reason I don't have an electric guitar...So for me vibrato, pull off etc are almost new things...for example...I've always been convinced that bending is a movement goin up while here you do it goin down too...If you have any suggestions even in very basic things like how to do a nice bending..vibrato etc...that would be really appreciated by me! :))
@Jd thanks....improve my singing skill is my challenge too as I always focused my attention on the guitar..I don't really like the way I sing and my pronunciation is not that good....I think I should take some lessons...I've started singin because it was necessary...I used to play solo in the gigs...
anyway I like your voice...I think it's already good expecially because we are not singing in our mother language as you're french and me italian!! :))
@Corey here's my feedback...as usual for the first video is a first really general try...This is the way I use to play till nowdays. I'm startin to play with only two fingers...I feel a little more comfortable now than couple of weeks ago.
@Ray you're not adding any confusion :))....For me is always a pleasure to talk about Robert Johnson and everything related to him....;)
@Corey thanks...to me it's not important to know exacly the way Robert Johnson played the tune per se (I'd really like but you know...), but to open another window in the many different ways to approach to the guitar...sometime ago I used to play Kindhearted woman in open A and it didn't sound that bad.... it's interesting for me now to study "me and the devil startin" from an open d tuning position which is unusual as the tune is a blues in A capoed or whatever..I'll try to post both versions of Kindhearted woman played in open A and traditional...as soon as I'll have my mac back..
@Ray...I think I made confusion...drop d tuning is the way Lonnie Johnson used to play, isn't it? it's DGDGBD?!?!?!
@Ray...thanks!!! yes...it's true..people are making a lot of miths about Robert Johnson in general...not only tunings :DD...anyway..I'm not sure who said it but there was someone, in one of those Rj doc who said that he used to play also in other different tunings which for me maybe it does some kind of sense...I mean he used to play in many different places wirh only one guitar because he was a rambler so it could be hard to switch continuosly from a tuning to another....plus Rory Block, who's not exacly the last in terms of blues experience, claims in her video method about robert johnson tecnique that he plays Rambling on my mind not in the usual open d tuning with capo etc but in an alternate tunig which is some kind of open c...and I don't remember what else..And I trust her because she, as a great fan of RobertJohnson , really made a kind of research on his way of playin the guitar...tryin to reproduce exacly the way he used to play..note by note...not because it's necessary but as a kind of research...it's different...
but Ray..it's nothing really important....I really like to talk about robert johnson because he is one of my heroes :)
@Corey..Thanks for teachin us Kindhearted woman. It's the first time I hear you playin Robert Johnson except for that Sweet home Chicago with Keb Mo :))...As you already know, I like a lot Robert Johnson, the way he plays the guitar, the myth and his lyrics. He with Skip James are my favourite Delta Blues players....:))
I have a question for you and anybody else who can help me. There's a lot of speculation about the way he used to tune his guitar....Do you think he actually play this tune, (me and the devil too) in standard tuning or some kind of open g tuning as many claim...There's also a man called Gene Roebuck who sell a book where he claims to have found the right way RJ used to tune his guitar...he call it the Devil tuning. When I tried to study his tunes I've alway found extremely difficoult to find the bass note...in standard tune seems to be really close to the original but it feels like something very little is missing....So I tried to switch in drop d tuning....
@Corey....we thank you for coming in Sardinia with all your band....;)
Was Johnny Shines who said that Robert Johnson loved to play Kalamazoo Guitar and Stella...isn't it?.....ANd, as far as I know, Stella Guitars NOW are very expensive..This is really funny...:)))..Our society is slaved by Marketing
@Corey...here's my first attempt...still not very precise..For me it's difficoult the alternating base on the descending c shape...anyway I'm tryin to play with only 2 fingers...I've noticed you do that here...I don't feel really comfortable but I've noticed that there's some difference when I pick the strings using 3 fingers...
I'd like to learn more on playin with two fingers...Would it be possible to show us how you put the hand on the guitar?...you aren't palm muting, are you? I have to really force myself not to move from the guitar the index finger..I'm really fascinated by this right hand technique..It reminds me Ali and View Farka Toure and Skip James too
@Mike....Have you sold your soul to the Devil in a beach down there in California?!?!?!!?ahahah..Just kiddin...It's amazing how much you improved in just one year..I'm happy for you..:))
@Jd..I do agree...recording king are really good guitar...a friend of mine has a 000 and it really sounds nice...
Well here we have the inequivocable proof of what I was sayin before.^__^..the quality of sound isn't very good because it's recorded with a smartphone. Live was much more better...Corey played amazingly and I appreciated a lot the reggae vibes of his band too...I still have in my mind the image of Gordon dancing with his saxophone...see how is crucial that 80% you were talking about??? and now I'm signed...I can't say if I'm playin bad that is a matter of guitar :D
In the evening I saw his concert..he was playin with his band...all great musicians...playing every kind of music...reggae too...then he just took the guitar and played solo 3 traditional blues songs ...a part from the fact that I was continuosly shaking the arms of my loved girlfriend sayin...he's playin my guitar, look, look!! You know I was again a kid of 3 years old...but, most important thing, my guitar in his hands sounded like an old gibson of the 20s (valuable more than 3000$) and in that moment I really understood how much a good touch really makes the difference...wood, gauge strings, shape, and first of all price where in that moment canceled..My epiphone cost 250 euros....In two words he demonstrated how much marketing really affects in a negative way our life..Babylon was burning in that moment. Knowledge and practice really make the difference...Every guitar offers a whole different kind of sounds and it's up to us and our ability to discover where to pick to let them came out..He only needed a couple of minutes and this is not exacly a good spot for gibson marketing sector :DDD
For sure a "good" guitar helps...but I stress again the verb...."Helps" ......In my humble opinion off course...
@Damian if I could say just two words about blues guitar...I'm lookin for a good one too except for the fact that at the moment I don't have money....I've tried many and for blues I think that in general Gibson produce really good guitars but just because I like a warmer sound...in fact I don't like really much martin guitar which for me are too bright and clear...For that range of price you could have a gibson l1 (the replica of Robert Johnson guitar, not one of my fav) and the L00 Blues King but if you like a wide neck than it's better, in my opinion, Gibson Keb Mo signature...These are all good guitars but you pay such a hy price because of the brand...In fact you could spend less and have nice guitar too all in solid back top and side...A good one is the Tanglewood TW73 Vs...It's cheap and nice..parlor size. And I do love fylde guitars (listen Eric Bibb) and Corey's guitar..
But a part from this in terms of guitar I always like to tell a nice anecdote about this summer. I had to play in a blues festival in the place where I come from, which is Sardinia and the same day, on the main stage there was the gig of one of my blues heros with his band playin in electric...I was really in touch with one of the organisers of the festival and I think in the morning, just a few hours before the beginning of the sound check he asked me if I could borrow my acoustic guitar to this great blues player...I was so happy to have received by him this request but I told him:are you sure? Mine is not a professional guitar, It's just an epiphone el 00, (solid top and laminated back and sides)..Do you think he will like it? He answered me: he said that, if possible, he needs an acoustic guitar.....then I replied...ah ok, if it's not a problem for him for sure it's not for me...perfect!!!!!
A presto
Alex
Jd...I don't know...I'm not so satisfied about the bass...I can do better than this with more practice...
I wait for your video!!
Ciao
Alex
@Corey....here's where I am....maybe there's just a little more bass now..:D
@Corey..thanks for your kind words...I know what you mean when you say that who teaches, learn at the same time! It's so true!!!!

I've listen the album too....Underground is very nice!! :)
