Hi Matthew -- glad you are enjoying Davell's lessons.  There is a huge amount there -- especially if you loop his run-throughs, solos and outros.  You're correct -- we don't have High Heel on the site -- sorry for the inconvience.

Hi Vincent -- welcome to Sonic Junction.  We decided to focus our efforts on iOS and discontinued the Android App.  You can still access all of the lessons via the web on your mobile / tablet device.  Thanks.

Hello,

I just signed up, and I wanted to try the app but I couldn't find it on the google play store.

Thanks for your help!

I am new to Sonic Junction and am working my way through all of the Davell Crawford lessons - but there appear to be lessons that are no longer on the site (for example the second lesson High Heeled Sneakers) - is this correct? is there a way to access these lessons?  Plus I love the lessons and it would be great if you had another piano player!

17 Mbps is good.  That should be enough if it's consistent.

How are things working for you today?

Hi Robert -- yes -- sounds like a connection speed issue.  You can check your speed here:

https://fast.com/

-- to see if you're getting the advertised bandwidth that you're paying for.

I understand Netflix built this speed test so it's customers could figure out issues like this.

Wow! that was a fast response......each and every video downloads extremely slow and stalls out and stops half way thu.....My system/ browser has not been updated lately...also any device pilot, cell phone or my computer does the same thing..so could it be my provider?

Mike Caren
Mike Caren Mar 20, 2017

Hi Robert -- thanks for letting us know.  You're the first one to mention this issue.

Can you tell me a specific lesson and we'll take a look.

We serve the videos out of the Amazon infrastructure -- so it's typically very reliable.

Have you updated your system / browser recently?

Also -- sometimes weather affects internet connections -- especially local hops to a house / apartment etc.

Please let me know.

Hi..for some reason lessons will not completely download and stop half way thu.....seems like on all the lessons list this occurs. Never had this problem before.

Chris -

Congrats on the Acoustic Classic piece in the May 2017 edition of Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Lion's Share is great as is the rest of Mount Royal. Do you always do your improvising into an iPhone for later use in the studio - I figured guys like you and Julian must have some fancy home recording gadgetry for that purpose.

Whatever you do don't change anything - it seems to be working pretty well.

How about champagne and reefer or king bee?? Or anything that you recorded with muddy. Their are only a handful of you guys left from the chicago era, and it sure would be nice to listen to your lessons. You know, even if you wanted to talk about amps and mics set ups, or how you guys picked your sets for the night, details you might think about, but rest assured, others are.

Thanks for getting back Jerry, Hope all is well.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. No, don't alter your planning-- I'm sure you know what you'd like to cover. I was just curious. I've been really into those old albums lately. I'd be interested in any discussion or teaching of those old "spacegrass" tunes, but as I said don't change up your plans for that. I'm mainly interested in learning some of those chords and a good way to learn chordal progressions of that nature by ear. I find myself learning some of the tunes, but I get lost when I try to learn the chords.

Great site you have here. Very happy to support it. I used to play in a bluegrass band out of Dothan, Alabama and we played some festivals with the Stringdusters back when you were with them and waiting on that first album to be released. You guys were always a lot of fun to talk to and put on some great shows.

Thanks again for the reply!

Hey Caleb,

I hadn't planned on teaching any of those things, although I certainly could. The nice thing about Tony Rice's guitar playing is that a lot of what goes on in the left hand (chord shapes, melodic phrases, etc) are modular. So if you learn a few of his chords in one "spacegrass" song, it will be much easier to figure them out in another.

Are there any songs in particular that you are interested in learning?

Cheers,

Chris

p.s. Neon Tetra is the first piece of instrumental music that I remember absolutely flipping out over when I was a young boy. I was always partial to the version on Hot Dawg by David Grisman.

I'm not doing active lessons anymore though I haven't entirely ruled out coming back on occasion. Are there specific songs you're interested in?

Hi Daniel -- what type of computer and browser are you using ?

You should see the Artist names at the top of the page -- unless you are on a tablet / mobile device -- where you need to touch the button with three lines in the upper right corner of the screen.

I can't figure out how to navigate this site from the opening/what's new page:( E.g., I can't find the artist hubs. Could someone help direct me please?

Hi Marty --- thanks for the question.   We moved to a new sheet music / tab format a little over a year ago.  Here's an example:

http://www.sonicjunction.com/chris-eldridge/tennessee-waltz-finding-and-using-chords-up-the-neck-pt-1

We're in the process of updating and re-releasing some of Chris's older lessons (including Soldier's Joy).  Honey, You Don't Know My Mind is the one being updated at the moment.  If you have requests, let us know and we will update them.

That said --- it's best to get the music in your mind as much as possible and work off that.  Connecting your inner ear to your fingers via muscle memory is the way you want to wire your brain.  Thanks.

I've recently started Chris Eldridge's lessons, and I’m having problems with tablature. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.  I’m working on the Norman Blake version of Soldier’s Joy, and the tab is missing a lot. There are no time indications – no indications of which notes are eighth notes, which are sixteenths, etc. There are no indications of which notes are slides and which are picked straight.  There is no indication of pick direction, something I’ve seen in other flatpicking tabs, but not here. I’m using a Mac with an old operating system (10.6.8) and I’m wondering if the problem is with my computer rather than the tab.  Chris’ lessons are great.  The tabs I’m seeing aren’t.
